The one hole that towered over the rest is filled. The Patriots spent their marquee pick on Jayden Daniels, and for the first time in a while there is a real answer at quarterback.
The trade ledger is the best part of the whole weekend. Landing Simpson that late papers over a lot of smaller sins.
A whole weekend of picks and edge rusher is somehow still a want.
In the end it comes back to Jayden Daniels, and a haul good enough to build on right away.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick 7 they get a franchise quarterback. A real need, handled.
They jumped the gun on Patrick Paul, taking him earlier than his grade liked. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Xavier Legette in slot 38 is fair value, right on his grade. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Christian Mahogany at the 68th overall pick is a conviction pick that outran the value. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
By-the-book stuff, Matt Goncalves at the 104th pick squarely in line with his ranking. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
A conviction pick on Beaux Limmer at pick No. 136 that the board grades a round light. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
The board had Kitan Oladapo higher than No. 182, and the safety fell to them anyway. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
They barely believed it either: Jaylin Simpson still on the board at the Round 6 slot. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
They paid a round early for Brevyn Spann-Ford in the Round 7 slot, more than the board wanted. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
