The best pick of the weekend was also the simplest. The Patriots watched Cedric Gray slide 43 picks past his grade and did not hesitate. Good, not great, and the B- says as much.
They lost the exchange badly enough to drag the whole class down. If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through edge rusher.
All told, a draft that does its job without fuss, and there is real value in that.
Pick-by-Pick
Patrick Paul at pick No. 61 is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Ja'Tavion Sanders slipping to the Round 3 slot is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
A slide stopped in pick 93, with Jalen McMillan worth more than the price. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Blake Fisher at Round 4, Pick 4 nudges the ledger their way without any fuss. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
By-the-book stuff, Jordan Travis at the 136th overall pick squarely in line with his ranking. It fills a real need, too.
Dylan Laube in slot 151 lands just on the right side of the ledger. The roster fit checks out.
Somehow Johnny Dixon was still sitting there in No. 164, and they pounced on premier cornerback value. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Cedric Gray in the 177th pick is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. A minor itch, scratched.
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Joe Milton III in slot 181. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
They robbed the room for De'Corian Clark here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
A tidy bit of business in the Round 7 slot, where Kenny Logan Jr. graded well above the range. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Isaiah Neyor is a better player than pick No. 234 suggests; smart patience, rewarded. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
They let Brevyn Spann-Ford come to them and pounced at the 247th overall pick. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
