It is the swing that defines the weekend: Jaishawn Barham in slot 84, a good 44 spots before the room expected him. The bottom line is a respectable B.
The Abney II value carries more weight than any single miss elsewhere. They will regret leaving quarterback for another day if the season turns on it. Stockpiling next year's capital is patient, if unglamorous, asset work.
The roster is better shaped than it was, with offensive lineman chief among the fixes.
Good work on the whole, with quarterback the one box left unchecked.
Pick-by-Pick
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Chris Bell at pick No. 52 is the proof. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
A top-tier cornerback at a bargain, Keith Abney II in No. 62, plain and simple. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
A real head-scratcher, Jaishawn Barham in pick 84 is miles ahead of his ranking. It fills a real need, too.
Sam Roush in the 108th pick is a gift, value that borders on unfair. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Bishop Fitzgerald at the 127th overall pick is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the safety. A minor need, but a need all the same.
They reached a country mile for Nadame Tucker at slot 133, and the board is aghast. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
The board had Trey Zuhn III higher than the 138th overall pick, and the offensive lineman fell to them anyway. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Chris McClellan at the 139th pick is right where the board had him, plain and simple. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
A reach on Seth McGowan in pick 167; the board had better options right there. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Toriano Pride Jr. in the Round 6 slot is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. They added to a strength when a need was still open elsewhere.
