The Texans did not reach, did not trade up, did not blink. They just waited, and Jake Majors fell into the Round 5 slot.
The phones were where this weekend was really won. The edge rusher hole is the one line item this class does not answer.
The Garrett Wilson pickup adds a known quantity to a class of unknowns. They went 5 of 8 on their needs, which is most of what a draft is for.
A workmanlike haul that should hold up just fine.
Pick-by-Pick
In Round 1, Pick 19 they get a matchup problem out wide. Exactly the need they had to hit.
In the 27th pick they get a run-stuffing presence up front at a price that makes it sweeter. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Tyler Booker slid further than he should have, and pick No. 53 is lovely value for the offensive lineman. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
The board had Andrew Mukuba higher than No. 84, and the safety fell to them anyway. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Somehow Gunnar Helm was still sitting there in the Round 4 slot, and they pounced on premier tight end value. It fills a real need, too.
The board fumbled Jake Majors all the way to the 164th overall pick, and they scooped it up. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
They robbed the room for Cam Skattebo here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
