After circling the position for what felt like forever, the Commanders committed. Caleb Williams is the quarterback now, and the roster gets built to his timeline.
It is not that Solomon is a bad player; it is that the Commanders had louder needs to answer first. They banked enough surplus on Wright to cover a lot of smaller sins.
They punted on wide receiver, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest.
Solid rather than spectacular, and there is nothing wrong with that.
Pick-by-Pick
In No. 2 they get the face of the franchise. A real need, handled.
A quiet steal in slot 36: Jordan Morgan for less than the market said. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Jackson Powers-Johnson in the Round 2 slot is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Blake Corum in pick No. 67 is fair value, right on his grade. It fills a real need, too.
They bypassed pressing needs at wide receiver, edge rusher and other spots to take Javon Solomon, an OLB-EDGE that was not the priority.
A reasonable price with a little left over, Zak Zinter in the 102nd overall pick. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Ben Sinnott at pick 141 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
You do not let a running back like Jaylen Wright reach the 181st pick and blink. They did not. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Myles Jones in the 223rd overall pick. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
