The rest of the league will want that one back. Cam Skattebo tumbling to the Cowboys in the Round 6 slot is a gift they did not have to think twice about.
Reaching for Thornton Jr. left real value on the table behind him. If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through cornerback. On the needs board they went 4 of 8, with wide receiver the one that mattered most.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the cornerback spot they never got to.
Pick-by-Pick
They paid up for Emeka Egbuka at No. 13 when waiting would have done the job. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Omarion Hampton in the Round 2 slot is a gift, value that borders on unfair. It fills a real need, too.
Jihaad Campbell at pick 78 is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
A wild overpay on Dont'e Thornton Jr. in slot 148, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Somehow Nicholas Singleton was still sitting there in Round 5, Pick 31, and they pounced on premier running back value. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
They robbed the room for Sonny Styles here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Smael Mondon Jr. in the 171st pick should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
