When a board-topper like Rome Odunze slides to the 41st overall pick, you do not overthink it, and the Packers did not. They moved the roster forward and banked a B for it.
A whole weekend of picks and edge rusher is somehow still a want. Every board in the league had Taylor lower, and that gap is the story. The roster is better shaped than it was, with cornerback chief among the fixes.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the edge rusher spot they never got to.
Pick-by-Pick
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Olumuyiwa Fashanu in pick 25. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Steal is underselling it; Rome Odunze at the Round 2 slot is a heist with the alarm still ringing. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
They read the board right and Edgerrin Cooper was the payoff at No. 58. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
A clean, defensible pick in the 88th pick with a little surplus value in Jaden Hicks. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Jaylen Wright at pick No. 91 is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
A premium they did not need to pay, Jarrian Jones a notch or two before his time. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
They did well to land Walter Rouse in slot 169, just ahead of his grade. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Caedan Wallace in Round 6, Pick 27 is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. A need, and now a little less of one.
Trevin Wallace at the 219th pick is a conviction pick that outran the value. They added to a strength when a need was still open elsewhere.
The board had cheaper options than Trey Taylor at the Round 7 slot, and it noticed. They doubled down on a strength rather than a need.
By-the-book stuff, Ryan Watts at the 255th overall pick squarely in line with his ranking. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
