The Dolphins spent the weekend waiting on one name, and it fell: Cody Simon, the No. 127 name on the board, in the Round 7 slot.
The Mukuba pick is fine in a vacuum, less so with quarterback, edge rusher and other spots still on the board. Leaving quarterback unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall. They left with wide receiver solved and the rest of the wish list mostly ticked off.
All told, a draft that does its job without fuss, and there is real value in that.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 13th overall pick they get a building block for the line at fair value. A real need, handled.
They robbed the room for Malaki Starks here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Tai Felton at the Round 3 slot is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the wide receiver. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
A want over a need in the 99th pick: Andrew Mukuba adds a safety while quarterback, edge rusher and other spots keeps waiting.
A reasonable price with a little left over, Luke Kandra in pick 115. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Quinshon Judkins at No. 149 is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. A need, and now a little less of one.
Somehow Mason Taylor was still sitting there in pick No. 156, and they pounced on premier tight end value. The roster fit checks out.
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Jonah Monheim at slot 224. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
They barely believed it either: Cody Simon still on the board at the 231st pick. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
You do not let a running back like Damien Martinez reach slot 251 and blink. They did not. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
