The move everyone will second-guess came early. The Texans reached some 55 spots for Logan Brown, and value like that does not grow back. The board pushed back all weekend, and the D- is the result.
On value alone, Giddens makes the weekend a net positive. The dealing is the wound this class cannot quite close.
The Texans indulged a want in Mukuba while a need in edge rusher and quarterback stayed open. That edge rusher hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall.
It is a steep hill from here, and the grade knows it.
Pick-by-Pick
Fair-plus on Luther Burden III, a quiet win that adds up over a draft. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
In the 30th overall pick they get a rangy last line of defense, outstanding value to boot. More want than need.
They paid sticker price for Tyler Warren in No. 42, and that is fine. A need, and now a little less of one.
They barely believed it either: Omarion Hampton still on the board at the Round 2 slot. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Circle this one: Jihaad Campbell at No. 58 is a fall that decides a draft. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Somehow Tyler Booker was still sitting there in the 63rd overall pick, and they pounced on premier offensive lineman value. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Deone Walker at Round 3, Pick 25 is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Value said wait; Logan Brown in pick 90 says they were not listening. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
They bypassed pressing needs at edge rusher and quarterback to take Andrew Mukuba, a safety that was not the priority.
They did well to land Tommi Hill in the Round 4 slot, just ahead of his grade. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
This one needs a full-page explanation: Jared Wilson in pick No. 164, miles early. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Taking DJ Giddens in the 241st pick is close to grand larceny; a running back that good had no business lasting this long. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
