A franchise passer in Maye headlines a B weekend for the Commanders.

After circling the position for what felt like forever, the Commanders committed. Drake Maye is the quarterback now, and the roster gets built to his timeline. A dependable weekend that grades out a B.

They are betting Jones proves the room right and everyone else wrong. They covered a lot of ground and still skipped tight end, which is a strange place to end up. The hoard sets up next April more than it helps this September.

Good work on the whole, with tight end the one box left unchecked.

Pick-by-Pick

R1.4 · Pick 4 · Drake Maye · QB · rank 7
Drake Maye in pick 4 is fair value, right on his grade. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
R1.27 · Pick 27 · Brian Thomas Jr. · WR · rank 28
In slot 27 they get a difference-maker at receiver at fair value. Exactly the need they had to hit.
R2.4 · Pick 36 · Ennis Rakestraw Jr. · CB · rank 35
A straight-up fair deal on Ennis Rakestraw Jr. at the 36th pick, value and slot in agreement. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
R2.8 · Pick 40 · Chris Braswell · LB-EDGE · rank 44
Chris Braswell at pick No. 40 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. It fills a real need, too.
R3.3 · Pick 67 · Kingsley Suamataia · OT · rank 61
Nothing to complain about; Kingsley Suamataia went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
R3.14 · Pick 78 · Cedric Gray · LB · rank 113
Cedric Gray at the 78th overall pick is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
R3.37 · Pick 100 · Khyree Jackson · CB · rank 95
Khyree Jackson at the Round 3 slot is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the cornerback. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
R5.2 · Pick 138 · Justin Eboigbe · DL-EDGE · rank 148
Justin Eboigbe at Round 5, Pick 2 is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. The roster fit checks out.
R5.3 · Pick 139 · Xavier Thomas · DE-EDGE · rank 162
A wild overpay on Xavier Thomas in slot 139, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. A need, and now a little less of one.
R5.16 · Pick 152 · Walter Rouse · OT · rank 163
A reach on Walter Rouse in the Round 5 slot; the board had better options right there. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
R7.2 · Pick 222 · Matthew Jones · OG · rank 266
They reached a country mile for Matthew Jones at pick 222, and the board is aghast. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
