Start where it matters. The Patriots took Drake Maye to run the offense for the next decade, and every other decision this weekend bends around that one. The sum of the weekend is a deserved A-.
The trade ledger is the best part of the whole weekend. If one pick saves this weekend, it is Coleman.
The cost of the Glaze reach is exactly the players who went right after him. With tight end unsolved, spending premium capital on TE-EDGE is the choice that costs them.
The tight end hole is the one line item this class does not answer.
In the end it comes back to Drake Maye, and a haul good enough to build on right away.
Pick-by-Pick
In slot 9 they get their guy under center for the next decade at fair value. A clean fit for the roster.
Amarius Mims slipping to pick No. 34 is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
A big swing on Xavier Worthy at the 35th pick, well ahead of any board in the building. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Somehow Chris Braswell was still sitting there in the Round 2 slot, and they pounced on premier edge rusher value. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
The board fumbled Keon Coleman all the way to the 68th overall pick, and they scooped it up. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
A surprising call. With tight end still to address, they spent pick 93 on Cade Stover, a TE-EDGE they were not short of.
A tidy bit of business in Round 4, Pick 4, where Bucky Irving graded well above the range. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
No edge and no loss on McKinnley Jackson in No. 125; it is a wash and a sensible one. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
They did well to land Cedric Gray in pick 129, just ahead of his grade. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
They talked themselves into Delmar Glaze at slot 159, and the board did not agree. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Grayson Murphy in the 161st overall pick is fair value, right on his grade. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Jalyx Hunt at Round 6, Pick 7. Need-wise, a curious use of the pick.
Nothing to complain about; Tahj Washington went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Nice patience on Josh Proctor, who had no business lasting to No. 229. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
KT Leveston is a better player than the 250th pick suggests; smart patience, rewarded. A need, and now a little less of one.
