Every so often the board makes a mistake, and the Chiefs were there to profit. Kingsley Suamataia, the No. 53 name on the board, should have been long gone before slot 95.
The cost of the Rouse reach is exactly the players who went right after him. If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through tight end.
They went 5 of 8 on their needs, which is most of what a draft is for.
Add it up and it is a good, unfussy class.
Pick-by-Pick
Nice patience on Troy Franklin, who had no business lasting to slot 34. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
No edge and no loss on Payton Wilson in pick 64; it is a wash and a sensible one. A need, and now a little less of one.
Somehow Kingsley Suamataia was still sitting there in Round 3, Pick 32, and they pounced on premier offensive lineman value. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
They took Daijun Edwards at par in the Round 4 slot, which is nothing to complain about. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Keith Randolph Jr. in the 158th overall pick is exactly on the number, no argument either way. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Kitan Oladapo at the 172nd pick is right where the board had him, plain and simple. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
LaDarius Henderson is a better player than No. 182 suggests; smart patience, rewarded. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Michael Barrett in pick No. 210 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Walter Rouse in slot 250 is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
