Dallas Cowboys

The steal of the weekend belongs to the Cowboys and Higgins: B-.

The Cowboys did not reach, did not trade up, did not blink. They just waited, and Jay Higgins fell into the Round 6 slot. The bottom line is a respectable B-.

The Riley pick is the one the value grade keeps tripping over. If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through offensive lineman.

In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the offensive lineman spot they never got to.

Pick-by-Pick

R1.12 · Pick 12 · Mason Graham · DT · rank 6
In pick No. 12 they get an anchor for the defensive front. A real need, handled.
R2.12 · Pick 44 · Matthew Golden · WR · rank 44
By-the-book stuff, Matthew Golden at slot 44 squarely in line with his ranking. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
R3.12 · Pick 76 · TreVeyon Henderson · RB · rank 60
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and TreVeyon Henderson at the 76th overall pick is the proof. A need, and now a little less of one.
R5.11 · Pick 148 · Cam Skattebo · RB · rank 110
Cam Skattebo in No. 148 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
R5.31 · Pick 168 · Carson Schwesinger · LB · rank 126
They will replay Carson Schwesinger at pick 168 for years; that is how good the value is. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
R5.33 · Pick 170 · Quincy Riley · CB · rank 229
Quincy Riley in the 170th pick is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
R5.36 · Pick 173 · Elijah Arroyo · TE · rank 182
A reach on Elijah Arroyo in the Round 5 slot; the board had better options right there. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
R6.11 · Pick 186 · Upton Stout · S · rank 179
A reasonable price with a little left over, Upton Stout in Round 6, Pick 11. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
R6.34 · Pick 209 · Jay Higgins · LB · rank 120
A linebacker of that caliber at the 209th pick is the definition of value, full stop. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
R7.32 · Pick 248 · Shaun Dolac · LB · rank 283
They talked themselves into Shaun Dolac at pick 248, and the board did not agree. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
