Call it a hunch or call it a gamble, but the Cowboys spent the Round 7 slot on Reggie Grimes II, a name most had 63 spots down the list.

They punted on wide receiver, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest. However the rest shakes out, Harris at that price is a win they earned. The dealing tilted against them, just enough to notice.

All told, a draft that does its job without fuss, and there is real value in that.

Pick-by-Pick

R3.11 · Pick 75 · Trevor Etienne · RB · rank 94
They talked themselves into Trevor Etienne at Round 3, Pick 11, and the board did not agree. It fills a real need, too.
R3.30 · Pick 94 · Noah Fifita · QB · rank 109
They liked Noah Fifita enough to skip the value, taking him in the Round 3 slot. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
R4.11 · Pick 107 · Earnest Greene III · OG · rank 98
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Earnest Greene III at pick 107. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
R4.18 · Pick 114 · Aireontae Ersery · OT · rank 117
A market-rate offensive lineman, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Aireontae Ersery. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
R4.29 · Pick 125 · Denver Harris · CB · rank 113
Denver Harris slid further than he should have, and the 125th pick is lovely value for the cornerback. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
R4.30 · Pick 126 · Sonny Styles · S · rank 125
They took Sonny Styles at par in the 126th overall pick, which is nothing to complain about. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
R5.11 · Pick 139 · Jaishawn Barham · LB · rank 173
A wild overpay on Jaishawn Barham in the 139th pick, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
R5.27 · Pick 155 · Jasheen Davis · DL-EDGE · rank 152
Jasheen Davis at No. 155 is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the edge rusher. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
R5.29 · Pick 157 · Akheem Mesidor · DL-EDGE · rank 166
They jumped the gun on Akheem Mesidor, taking him earlier than his grade liked. Insurance at a position that did not really ask for it.
R5.30 · Pick 158 · Josaiah Stewart · DE-EDGE · rank 170
A reach for Josaiah Stewart in the Round 5 slot; a little patience would have been rewarded. Pure best-available; the position was not exactly begging.
R6.18 · Pick 178 · Tony Grimes · DB · rank 193
A conviction pick on Tony Grimes at pick 178 that the board grades a round light. It does not line up with the team's obvious holes.
R6.30 · Pick 190 · Deshawn Pace · S · rank 207
The board had cheaper options than Deshawn Pace at Round 6, Pick 30, and it noticed. A want more than a need, though you can never have too many.
R7.29 · Pick 221 · Deontae Lawson · LB · rank 244
A big swing on Deontae Lawson at pick No. 221, well ahead of any board in the building. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
R7.30 · Pick 222 · Reggie Grimes II · DL-EDGE · rank 285
They reached a country mile for Reggie Grimes II at the 222nd overall pick, and the board is aghast. They added to a strength when a need was still open elsewhere.
