The Chiefs put a flag in the ground for Jeremy Flax, 42 picks before anyone else would have, and the value took the hit.
The tight end hole is the one line item this class does not answer. The roster is better shaped than it was, with wide receiver chief among the fixes.
Nothing here to lose sleep over, and plenty to feel decent about.
Pick-by-Pick
In Round 1, Pick 32 they get a go-to option on the outside. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Payton Wilson in the Round 2 slot is fair value, right on his grade. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
No edge and no loss on Matt Goncalves in the 102nd pick; it is a wash and a sensible one. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Sione Vaki at the 133rd overall pick is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. It adds depth where they could use a little.
A straight-up fair deal on Jaylen Wright at pick 158, value and slot in agreement. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Jordan Jefferson at No. 172 is a conviction pick that outran the value. The roster fit checks out.
A wild overpay on Jeremy Flax in the 210th pick, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Nothing to complain about; Jordan Magee went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. A need, and now a little less of one.
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Walter Rouse. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
