Start where it matters. The Patriots took Drake Maye to run the offense for the next decade, and every other decision this weekend bends around that one. It nets out to a B-, which feels about right.
For all the activity, edge rusher went untouched, which is hard to explain. If one pick saves this weekend, it is Torrence. They left with wide receiver solved and the rest of the wish list mostly ticked off.
Solid rather than spectacular, and there is nothing wrong with that.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 3rd pick they get a passer to set the clock by. A real need, handled.
Amarius Mims slipping to pick No. 34 is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
They took Devontez Walker at par in slot 68, which is nothing to complain about. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
No drama and no debate, Braelon Allen went about where he belonged in the Round 4 slot. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
They paid sticker price for Anthony Gould in Round 5, Pick 1, and that is fine. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
They read the board right and Kamal Hadden was the payoff at No. 180. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
A tidy bit of business in the 193rd overall pick, where Ro Torrence graded well above the range. A want more than a need, though you can never have too many.
Garret Greenfield slid further than he should have, and pick 231 is lovely value for the offensive lineman. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
