The one hole that towered over the rest is filled. The Patriots spent their marquee pick on Jayden Daniels, and for the first time in a while there is a real answer at quarterback. The sum of the weekend is a deserved A.
Landing Coleman that late papers over a lot of smaller sins. They won the margins on every swap, and it adds up fast. For all the activity, edge rusher went untouched, which is hard to explain.
In short, they turned a good board into a better roster, and it shows.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 5th pick they get a franchise quarterback at fair value. A real need, handled.
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Amarius Mims at slot 34. The roster fit checks out.
A wide receiver of that caliber at No. 68 is the definition of value, full stop. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Good price on Trey Benson in pick 102, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
No drama and no debate, Will Shipley went about where he belonged in Round 4, Pick 4. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Steal is underselling it; Sataoa Laumea at pick No. 136 is a heist with the alarm still ringing. It fills a real need, too.
Taking Malik Mustapha in the 179th overall pick is close to grand larceny; a safety that good had no business lasting this long. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Nathaniel Watson at the Round 7 slot is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. A minor itch, scratched.
