Start where it matters. The Patriots took Jayden Daniels to run the offense for the next decade, and every other decision this weekend bends around that one.
The trade ledger is the best part of the whole weekend. They punted on edge rusher, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest. Reaching for Wilson left real value on the table behind him.
That is a safety worth more than the slot they spent on him, plainly.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but edge rusher.
Pick-by-Pick
In No. 8 they get their quarterback of the future. A real need, handled.
In the 27th overall pick they get a blindside protector at fair value. A clean fit for the roster.
Adonai Mitchell in pick No. 34 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Kingsley Suamataia in the Round 3 slot. The roster fit checks out.
By-the-book stuff, Jaylen Wright at slot 74 squarely in line with his ranking. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Braelon Allen in pick 102 is fair value, right on his grade. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Johnny Wilson at Round 4, Pick 12 is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Ben Sinnott in the 120th pick is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. It fills a real need, too.
They read the board right and Josh Newton was the payoff at No. 136. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Tykee Smith slid further than he should have, and the 161st overall pick is lovely value for the safety. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
