Whoever sat across the table from the Vikings should ask for a receipt. They cleaned the room out, prying loose far more value than they gave up, and it was the quiet MVP of their weekend. A sturdy weekend that grades out a B.
Hadden falling to them is the kind of break a good board is built to catch. They will regret leaving safety for another day if the season turns on it.
Frost has a lot of ground to make up just to look fairly priced.
Add it up and it is a good, unfussy class.
Pick-by-Pick
In Round 1, Pick 3 they get a go-to option on the outside at fair value.
Nothing to complain about; Malik Nabers went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
By-the-book stuff, J.J. McCarthy at No. 42 squarely in line with his ranking. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
A straight-up fair deal on Matt Goncalves at slot 108, value and slot in agreement. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
They read the board right and DJ James was the payoff at pick 129. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Value with a capital V on Cedric Gray in the 148th pick, a genuine coup. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Taking Kamal Hadden in the Round 5 slot is close to grand larceny; a cornerback that good had no business lasting this long. A want dressed up as a pick, at a spot they had covered.
A tidy bit of business in the 168th overall pick, where Keith Randolph Jr. graded well above the range. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Layden Robinson in pick 179. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
They reached a country mile for Aaron Frost at No. 230, and the board is aghast. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
