They finally answered the question that shadows every other one. Drake Maye is the Patriots' quarterback, full stop.
That Pritchett pick is the receipt they will wave around later. The edge rusher spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at.
The trade work was a quiet net positive.
Good work on the whole, with edge rusher the one box left unchecked.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 3rd overall pick they get their guy under center for the next decade at fair value. A real need, handled.
Roman Wilson at the Round 2 slot is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Patrick Paul in the 68th pick is fair value, right on his grade. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Javon Baker at pick No. 77 is a conviction pick that outran the value. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Cam Hart at Round 4, Pick 15 is money in the bank, a cornerback taken below his worth. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Roger Rosengarten in slot 137 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
A market-rate tight end, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Dallin Holker. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Nehemiah Pritchett at pick 180 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. Pure best-available; the position was not exactly begging.
By-the-book stuff, Delmar Glaze at pick 193 squarely in line with his ranking. A need, and now a little less of one.
Taking Justin Rogers in No. 214 is close to grand larceny; an interior defensive lineman that good had no business lasting this long. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
A linebacker of that caliber at the 231st overall pick is the definition of value, full stop. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
