The best pick of the weekend was also the simplest. The Patriots watched Dwight McGlothern slide 70 picks past his grade and did not hesitate. A dependable weekend that grades out a B+.
So much rides on Jayden Daniels that the rest of the class almost grades on a curve behind him. Every deal seemed to tilt their way, which is not luck.
They covered a lot of ground and still skipped interior defensive lineman, which is a strange place to end up. They will need Fisher to outplay his draft slot in a hurry to justify it.
Good work on the whole, with interior defensive lineman the one box left unchecked.
Pick-by-Pick
In slot 11 they get a franchise quarterback. A clean fit for the roster.
In the Round 1 slot they get a red-zone target to build around, and a steal at that. A real need, handled.
Fair-plus on Jordan Morgan, a quiet win that adds up over a draft. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Devontez Walker at pick 68 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
A market-rate wide receiver, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Brenden Rice. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
A conviction pick on Blake Fisher at No. 103 that the board grades a round light. The roster fit checks out.
Circle this one: Elijah Jones at the 137th pick is a fall that decides a draft. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
A tidy little value on Grayson Murphy in the Round 6 slot, a step better than break-even. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
A straight-up fair deal on Jase McClellan at the 193rd overall pick, value and slot in agreement. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Dwight McGlothern in pick No. 231 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. Insurance at a position that did not really ask for it.
Taking Garret Greenfield in No. 255 is close to grand larceny; an offensive lineman that good had no business lasting this long. It fills a real need, too.
