Every so often the board makes a mistake, and the Bears were there to profit. Akheem Mesidor, the No. 37 name on the board, should have been long gone before pick No. 239.
The cornerback spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at. The trenches got the money picks, top to bottom.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but cornerback.
Pick-by-Pick
They robbed the room for Jeremiyah Love here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
David Bailey in the 57th pick is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Circle this one: Spencer Fano at No. 60 is a fall that decides a draft. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
A interior defensive lineman of that caliber at Round 3, Pick 25 is the definition of value, full stop. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Sonny Styles in slot 129 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Taking Akheem Mesidor in pick No. 239 is close to grand larceny; an edge rusher that good had no business lasting this long. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Steal is underselling it; Logan Jones at the Round 7 slot is a heist with the alarm still ringing. It fills a real need, too.
