The steal of the weekend belongs to the Patriots and Dixon: A-.

The rest of the league will want that one back. Johnny Dixon tumbling to the Patriots in pick 233 is a gift they did not have to think twice about.

They covered a lot of ground and still skipped edge rusher, which is a strange place to end up. The Jake Ferguson pickup adds a known quantity to a class of unknowns.

Wide receiver was the priority and it is no longer a question, which is most of the job.

Add it up and few war rooms did better this weekend, Brock Bowers and all.

Pick-by-Pick

R1.11 · Pick 11 · Brock Bowers · TE · rank 6
In slot 11 they get a security blanket over the middle at fair value. A real need, handled.
R1.24 · Pick 24 · Brian Thomas Jr. · WR · rank 27
In the 24th pick they get a weapon on the perimeter. Exactly the need they had to hit.
R2.2 · Pick 34 · J.J. McCarthy · QB · rank 29
J.J. McCarthy at pick 34 is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the quarterback. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
R3.4 · Pick 68 · Patrick Paul · OT · rank 69
They took Patrick Paul at par in Round 3, Pick 4, which is nothing to complain about. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
R3.24 · Pick 87 · Javon Baker · WR · rank 91
By-the-book stuff, Javon Baker at pick No. 87 squarely in line with his ranking. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
R4.3 · Pick 103 · Mike Sainristil · CB · rank 75
They will replay Mike Sainristil at the Round 4 slot for years; that is how good the value is. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
R5.1 · Pick 137 · Ray Davis · RB · rank 109
Somehow Ray Davis was still sitting there in the 137th overall pick, and they pounced on premier running back value. The roster fit checks out.
R6.5 · Pick 180 · Malik Mustapha · S · rank 170
A slide stopped in No. 180, with Malik Mustapha worth more than the price. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
R6.18 · Pick 193 · Ty'Ron Hopper · LB · rank 181
Ty'Ron Hopper in Round 6, Pick 18 is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
R7.11 · Pick 231 · Julian Pearl · OT · rank 204
Circle this one: Julian Pearl at the 231st overall pick is a fall that decides a draft. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
R7.13 · Pick 233 · Johnny Dixon · CB · rank 190
Johnny Dixon at the 233rd pick is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. They doubled down on a strength rather than a need.
