After circling the position for what felt like forever, the Patriots committed. Drake Maye is the quarterback now, and the roster gets built to his timeline. One of the weekend's best, top to bottom, and a A to show for it.
The trade ledger is the best part of the whole weekend. Landing Oladapo that late papers over a lot of smaller sins. They punted on edge rusher, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest.
Bottom line, they left the weekend a clearly better team, and they earned every bit of it.
Pick-by-Pick
Drake Maye at No. 7 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. The roster fit checks out.
Brian Thomas Jr. in Round 2, Pick 2 is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
The board had Jordan Morgan higher than slot 47, and the offensive lineman fell to them anyway. It fills a real need, too.
They took Ja'Lynn Polk at par in the 68th overall pick, which is nothing to complain about. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Caelen Carson slipping to the 104th pick is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Christian Mahogany at the Round 4 slot is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
A premium they did not need to pay, Dylan Laube a notch or two before his time. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
They robbed the room for Kitan Oladapo here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Circle this one: Marcus Rosemy-Jacksaint at the 219th overall pick is a fall that decides a draft. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
A linebacker of that caliber at slot 229 is the definition of value, full stop. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
