Thirty-one other rooms let Jordan James slide, and the Patriots were the ones holding the card at pick No. 103. Highway robbery.
They handed away value on the phones that the picks cannot earn back. That edge rusher hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall. Wide receiver was the priority and it is no longer a question, which is most of the job.
So much rides on Tetairoa McMillan that the real verdict is a season or two away.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick 5 they get a true top target. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
They robbed the room for Malaki Starks here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Jalon Walker in the 41st pick. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
They took Jalen Royals at par in No. 67, which is nothing to complain about. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Jayden Higgins at Round 3, Pick 8 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Zy Alexander slid further than he should have, and the Round 3 slot is lovely value for the cornerback. A minor need, but a need all the same.
By-the-book stuff, Jake Majors at pick No. 95 squarely in line with his ranking. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
They barely believed it either: Jordan James still on the board at slot 103. It fills a real need, too.
Somehow Mason Taylor was still sitting there in Round 4, Pick 37, and they pounced on premier tight end value. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
