Thirty-one other rooms let Bhayshul Tuten slide, and the Patriots were the ones holding the card at pick No. 241. Highway robbery.
They handed away value on the phones that the picks cannot earn back. They covered a lot of ground and still skipped edge rusher, which is a strange place to end up.
Call it incomplete, and check back in a couple of seasons.
Pick-by-Pick
Wyatt Milum at pick 4 is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. A need, and now a little less of one.
Good price on Tate Ratledge in slot 38, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Kaleb Johnson at the Round 3 slot is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. It fills a real need, too.
Xavier Watts in pick No. 77 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Darien Porter at the 82nd overall pick is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the cornerback. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
They barely believed it either: Deontae Lawson still on the board at Round 4, Pick 4. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Taking Oronde Gadsden II in the 183rd pick is close to grand larceny; a tight end that good had no business lasting this long. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Steal is underselling it; Bhayshul Tuten at No. 241 is a heist with the alarm still ringing. The roster fit checks out.
You do not let an offensive lineman like Seth McLaughlin reach the 253rd pick and blink. They did not. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
