The Patriots spent the weekend waiting on one name, and it fell: Quinshon Judkins, the No. 73 name on the board, in pick No. 143. This is how you run a draft, and the A- reflects it.
The trade ledger is the best part of the whole weekend. They will regret leaving edge rusher for another day if the season turns on it. The Patriots paired the rookies with proven help, Micah Parsons leading the way.
Safety is handled and the depth chart looks a good deal healthier for it.
Add it up and few war rooms did better this weekend, Nick Emmanwori and all.
Pick-by-Pick
Steal is underselling it; Nick Emmanwori at the Round 2 slot is a heist with the alarm still ringing. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
By-the-book stuff, Dylan Fairchild at No. 57 squarely in line with his ranking. The roster fit checks out.
You do not let a safety like Kamari Ramsey reach the 69th pick and blink. They did not. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
A running back of that caliber at pick No. 82 is the definition of value, full stop. A need, and now a little less of one.
Deontae Lawson at slot 122 is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. It adds depth where they could use a little.
The board fumbled Quinshon Judkins all the way to Round 5, Pick 6, and they scooped it up. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Somehow Oronde Gadsden II was still sitting there in the 170th overall pick, and they pounced on premier tight end value. It fills a real need, too.
