New England Patriots

The Patriots won the weekend at the trade table. Grade: A-.

The Shilo Sanders selection is the head-turner. The Patriots reached 45 spots for him, and it will define how this weekend is remembered. Little to argue with here, and the A- says so.

They won the margins on every swap, and it adds up fast. However the rest shakes out, Strong at that price is a win they earned. Leaving interior defensive lineman unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall.

The veteran additions, Micah Parsons chief among them, give the class a floor the rookies alone would not.

Add it up and few war rooms did better this weekend, Abdul Carter and all.

Pick-by-Pick

R1.4 · Pick 4 · Abdul Carter · DE-EDGE · rank 3
In No. 4 they get a premier pass rusher. The biggest hole, addressed.
R3.5 · Pick 69 · Cameron Williams · OT · rank 67
Cameron Williams in the Round 3 slot is fair value, right on his grade. It fills a real need, too.
R3.13 · Pick 77 · Jack Bech · WR · rank 66
A slide stopped in slot 77, with Jack Bech worth more than the price. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
R4.15 · Pick 117 · Cam Skattebo · RB · rank 100
Cam Skattebo at pick 117 is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
R5.6 · Pick 144 · Dorian Strong · CB · rank 120
Dorian Strong at pick No. 144 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
R7.22 · Pick 238 · Shilo Sanders · S · rank 283
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Shilo Sanders well ahead of where he belonged. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
