The real work happened on the phones. The Patriots fleeced their trade partners, turning their picks into a noticeably bigger pile than they started with.
They are betting Matavao proves the room right and everyone else wrong. That interior defensive lineman hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall. However the rest shakes out, Henderson at that price is a win they earned.
Add it up and few war rooms did better this weekend, Nic Scourton and all.
Pick-by-Pick
A market-rate edge rusher, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Nic Scourton. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
TreVeyon Henderson at slot 69 is money in the bank, a running back taken below his worth. A need, and now a little less of one.
They let Jack Bech come to them and pounced at pick No. 77. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
They took Zy Alexander at par in Round 3, Pick 33, which is nothing to complain about. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Antwaun Powell-Ryland at the Round 5 slot is a conviction pick that outran the value. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
A premium they did not need to pay, Carson Vinson a notch or two before his time. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Kobe Hudson at the 220th overall pick is the proof. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Moliki Matavao in the 238th pick is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
