The best pick of the weekend was also the simplest. The Patriots watched James Williams slide 90 picks past his grade and did not hesitate. The bottom line is a respectable B-.
The trade table is where this weekend went wrong. That edge rusher hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall. The cost of the Van Pran reach is exactly the players who went right after him.
A tidy weekend of work that should hold up just fine.
Pick-by-Pick
In Round 1, Pick 12 they get protection for the quarterback. A real need, handled.
Rome Odunze in pick No. 34 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Steal is underselling it; Tyler Guyton at pick 68 is a heist with the alarm still ringing. The roster fit checks out.
They liked Sedrick Van Pran enough to skip the value, taking him in slot 76. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Khyree Jackson in the 103rd overall pick is exactly on the number, no argument either way. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Jordan Travis in the Round 5 slot is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Cedric Gray in No. 182 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
You do not let a safety like James Williams reach the 224th pick and blink. They did not. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Somehow Jawhar Jordan was still sitting there in the 232nd overall pick, and they pounced on premier running back value. It fills a real need, too.
