Start where it matters. The Patriots took Drake Maye to run the offense for the next decade, and every other decision this weekend bends around that one. The bottom line is a respectable B.
The Harden steal is the beam this whole class leans on. They are betting Tupuola-Fetui proves the room right and everyone else wrong. That running back hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall.
All told, a draft that does its job without fuss, and there is real value in that.
Pick-by-Pick
In No. 7 they get their quarterback of the future at fair value.
They took Keon Coleman at par in pick 38, which is nothing to complain about. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
They talked themselves into Patrick Paul at slot 50, and the board did not agree. It fills a real need, too.
Ja'Lynn Polk at Round 2, Pick 21 is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Leonard Taylor III in the 103rd pick is exactly on the number, no argument either way. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
A premium they did not need to pay, Kitan Oladapo a notch or two before his time. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
They paid sticker price for Tip Reiman in the 180th overall pick, and that is fine. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
A wild overpay on Zion Tupuola-Fetui in the Round 6 slot, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Taking Myles Harden in the Round 7 slot is close to grand larceny; a cornerback that good had no business lasting this long. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
