The one hole that towered over the rest is filled. The Patriots spent their marquee pick on J.J. McCarthy, and for the first time in a while there is a real answer at quarterback. Solid and sensible more than spectacular: a B.
The Washington steal is the beam this whole class leans on. They are betting Tupuola-Fetui proves the room right and everyone else wrong. The dealing alone would carry a lesser class.
The interior defensive lineman hole is the one line item this class does not answer.
A competent weekend that does not make headlines and does not need to.
Pick-by-Pick
In No. 11 they get a true top target at fair value. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
In pick 23 they get a franchise quarterback. A real need, handled.
Value said wait; Patrick Paul in pick No. 50 says they were not listening. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Jordan Morgan slid further than he should have, and the Round 2 slot is lovely value for the offensive lineman. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Khyree Jackson at the 110th overall pick is money in the bank, a cornerback taken below his worth. A minor need, but a need all the same.
They went early on Kitan Oladapo in Round 5, Pick 1, and the value did not follow. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Zion Tupuola-Fetui at the 180th pick is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
They robbed the room for Tahj Washington here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
