The Chiefs did not so much draft Jaylan Ford as overpay for him, 38 picks clear of his grade. It sets an uneasy tone for the weekend.
The tight end spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at. The roster is better shaped than it was, with wide receiver chief among the fixes.
The offense got the lion's share of the attention.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but tight end.
Pick-by-Pick
A tidy little value on Tyler Guyton in slot 32, a step better than break-even. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Xavier Legette in the Round 2 slot is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Malik Washington in Round 3, Pick 32 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Tykee Smith at No. 131 is a conviction pick that outran the value. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Jaylan Ford at pick No. 158 is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Khristian Boyd at the 172nd pick is right where the board had him, plain and simple. The roster fit checks out.
Blake Watson in the Round 7 slot is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
