The Packers clearly saw something nobody else did in Jared Wiley, taking him 32 picks ahead of his grade. The board is not convinced.
Leaving quarterback unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall. Beebe falling to them is the kind of break a good board is built to catch.
On the needs board they went 6 of 8, with edge rusher the one that mattered most.
A tidy weekend of work that should hold up just fine.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 25th overall pick they get a run-stuffing presence up front at fair value. A clean fit for the roster.
A market-rate linebacker, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Edgerrin Cooper. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
They took Max Melton at par in the 58th pick, which is nothing to complain about. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Cole Bishop at Round 3, Pick 25 is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Cooper Beebe in pick No. 91 is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Cody Schrader in the Round 4 slot is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
They talked themselves into Jared Wiley at the 168th overall pick, and the board did not agree. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
This one needs a full-page explanation: Myles Cole in No. 204, miles early. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Jaylen Harrell in the 216th pick is fair value, right on his grade. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
