The Commanders got the worse of every deal, and it shows in the B-.

Nobody had Dallin Holker this high, and it is not close. The Commanders reached 90 spots to get him at pick 68. A sturdy weekend that grades out a B-.

Whatever else happened, they won the night they took Smith-Wade. They handed away value on the phones that the picks cannot earn back.

They covered a lot of ground and still skipped quarterback, which is a strange place to end up. The future picks help the war chest more than the win-now roster.

All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but quarterback.

Pick-by-Pick

R1.3 · Pick 3 · Joe Alt · OT · rank 3
In pick No. 3 they get a plug-and-play piece up front. The biggest hole, addressed.
R2.8 · Pick 40 · Darius Robinson · DL-EDGE · rank 37
They did well to land Darius Robinson in No. 40, just ahead of his grade. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
R3.4 · Pick 68 · Dallin Holker · TE · rank 158
Dallin Holker at the 68th pick is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
R4.1 · Pick 101 · Jaylen Wright · RB · rank 79
The board fumbled Jaylen Wright all the way to slot 101, and they scooped it up. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
R4.3 · Pick 103 · Johnny Wilson · WR · rank 128
They left a pile of value on the table to take Johnny Wilson this early at Round 4, Pick 3. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
R4.36 · Pick 136 · Renardo Green · S · rank 112
They barely believed it either: Renardo Green still on the board at the 136th overall pick. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
R5.1 · Pick 137 · Sataoa Laumea · OT · rank 117
They robbed the room for Sataoa Laumea here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
R5.33 · Pick 169 · Ty'Ron Hopper · LB · rank 177
They jumped the gun on Ty'Ron Hopper, taking him earlier than his grade liked. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
R6.6 · Pick 181 · Chau Smith-Wade · CB · rank 133
Somehow Chau Smith-Wade was still sitting there in the 181st overall pick, and they pounced on premier cornerback value. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
R6.7 · Pick 182 · Jha'Quan Jackson · WR · rank 178
Good price on Jha'Quan Jackson in pick 182, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
R6.45 · Pick 220 · Delmar Glaze · C · rank 183
Delmar Glaze in the Round 6 slot should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
R7.10 · Pick 230 · Myles Cole · DE-EDGE · rank 223
A clean, defensible pick in Round 7, Pick 10 with a little surplus value in Myles Cole. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
