Dallas Cowboys

Thornton Jr. should have been long gone. The Cowboys pounced, and earned a B.

The board owed the Cowboys one, and it paid up: Dont'e Thornton Jr., the No. 179 name on the board, sitting there at the 249th pick like a gift left on the doorstep.

Every board in the league had Stutsman lower, and that gap is the story. If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through offensive lineman. The future picks help the war chest more than the win-now roster.

A competent weekend that does not make headlines and does not need to.

Pick-by-Pick

R1.25 · Pick 25 · Danny Stutsman · LB · rank 89
A wild overpay on Danny Stutsman in the Round 1 slot, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
R2.12 · Pick 44 · Matthew Golden · WR · rank 12
A wide receiver of that caliber at Round 2, Pick 12 is the definition of value, full stop. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
R5.11 · Pick 150 · Sebastian Castro · S · rank 92
Taking Sebastian Castro in the 150th overall pick is close to grand larceny; a safety that good had no business lasting this long. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
R5.31 · Pick 170 · Dillon Gabriel · QB · rank 132
Dillon Gabriel at pick No. 170 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
R5.33 · Pick 172 · LeQuint Allen · RB · rank 139
Steal is underselling it; LeQuint Allen at the 172nd pick is a heist with the alarm still ringing. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
R5.35 · Pick 174 · Tommi Hill · CB · rank 135
A top-tier cornerback at a bargain, Tommi Hill in pick 174, plain and simple. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
R6.12 · Pick 190 · Pat Bryant · WR · rank 143
You do not let a wide receiver like Pat Bryant reach No. 190 and blink. They did not. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
R6.33 · Pick 211 · Ollie Gordon II · RB · rank 168
Ollie Gordon II in slot 211 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. A need, and now a little less of one.
R7.25 · Pick 243 · JJ Pegues · DT · rank 181
They robbed the room for JJ Pegues here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
R7.31 · Pick 249 · Dont'e Thornton Jr. · WR · rank 179
Dont'e Thornton Jr. in the 249th pick is a gift, value that borders on unfair. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
