The board owed the Cowboys one, and it paid up: Dont'e Thornton Jr., the No. 179 name on the board, sitting there at the 249th pick like a gift left on the doorstep.
Every board in the league had Stutsman lower, and that gap is the story. If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through offensive lineman. The future picks help the war chest more than the win-now roster.
A competent weekend that does not make headlines and does not need to.
Pick-by-Pick
A wild overpay on Danny Stutsman in the Round 1 slot, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
A wide receiver of that caliber at Round 2, Pick 12 is the definition of value, full stop. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Taking Sebastian Castro in the 150th overall pick is close to grand larceny; a safety that good had no business lasting this long. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Dillon Gabriel at pick No. 170 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
