It is the swing that defines the weekend: Jack Westover in the Round 7 slot, a good 65 spots before the room expected him.
They lost the exchange badly enough to drag the whole class down. The interior defensive lineman spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at. The Verse pick alone nudges the whole weekend up a notch.
Solid rather than spectacular, and there is nothing wrong with that.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 30th pick they get a quarterback's worst nightmare at a price that makes it sweeter. The biggest hole, addressed.
Kris Jenkins at No. 37 is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
They jumped the gun on Cooper Beebe, taking him earlier than his grade liked. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
A reach for Jaylen Wright in slot 69; a little patience would have been rewarded. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Ben Sinnott well ahead of where he belonged. The roster fit checks out.
They took Zak Zinter at par in pick No. 106, which is nothing to complain about. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
They reached a country mile for Mason McCormick at Round 5, Pick 3, and the board is aghast. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Tanor Bortolini at pick 183 is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
They talked themselves into Jalen Coker at the 223rd pick, and the board did not agree. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
They left a pile of value on the table to take Jack Westover this early at pick No. 256. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
