You build a draft on nights like this. Jordan Hancock had no business being available in slot 222, and the Patriots did the only sane thing and turned in the card.
Nesbit has a lot of ground to make up just to look fairly priced. Leaving edge rusher unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall.
Wide receiver was the priority and it is no longer a question, which is most of the job. The trenches got the money picks, top to bottom.
Good work on the whole, with edge rusher the one box left unchecked.
Pick-by-Pick
In Round 1, Pick 4 they get an anchor for the offensive line, though they paid up to get him. A real need, handled.
A tidy bit of business in the Round 2 slot, where Kenneth Grant graded well above the range. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
A quiet steal in the 69th overall pick: Elic Ayomanor for less than the market said. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Quinshon Judkins at No. 77 is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Denzel Burke at the 105th pick is money in the bank, a cornerback taken below his worth. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Andres Borregales in pick 145 is fair value, right on his grade. They doubled down on a strength rather than a need.
Teddye Buchanan in slot 219 is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
The board fumbled Jordan Hancock all the way to pick No. 222, and they scooped it up. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Bryson Nesbit. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
