Every so often the board makes a mistake, and the Packers were there to profit. Johnny Dixon, the No. 191 name on the board, should have been long gone before pick 219.

They punted on edge rusher, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest. Reaching for Wallace left real value on the table behind him. Job largely done: cornerback settled and 4 of 8 of the wish list covered.

They reloaded the coverage unit in bulk.

Solid rather than spectacular, and there is nothing wrong with that.

Pick-by-Pick

R1.20 · Pick 20 · Quinyon Mitchell · CB · rank 19
In the Round 1 slot they get a sticky cover corner at fair value. The biggest hole, addressed.
R2.12 · Pick 44 · Edgerrin Cooper · LB · rank 49
By-the-book stuff, Edgerrin Cooper at the 44th overall pick squarely in line with his ranking. It adds depth where they could use a little.
R2.32 · Pick 64 · Kamren Kinchens · S · rank 64
They took Kamren Kinchens at par in slot 64, which is nothing to complain about. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
R3.30 · Pick 93 · Christian Mahogany · OG · rank 98
A market-rate offensive lineman, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Christian Mahogany. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
R4.26 · Pick 126 · Elijah Jones · CB · rank 115
They read the board right and Elijah Jones was the payoff at pick No. 126. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
R4.32 · Pick 132 · Roger Rosengarten · OT · rank 135
They paid sticker price for Roger Rosengarten in Round 4, Pick 32, and that is fine. The roster fit checks out.
R5.29 · Pick 165 · Malik Mustapha · S · rank 170
Malik Mustapha in pick 165 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. Stacking talent where they were already deep.
R5.33 · Pick 169 · Dillon Johnson · RB · rank 169
No edge and no loss on Dillon Johnson in No. 169; it is a wash and a sensible one. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
R6.27 · Pick 202 · Jha'Quan Jackson · WR · rank 179
The board fumbled Jha'Quan Jackson all the way to pick No. 202, and they scooped it up. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
R6.33 · Pick 208 · Garret Greenfield · OT · rank 217
They jumped the gun on Garret Greenfield, taking him earlier than his grade liked. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
R6.44 · Pick 219 · Johnny Dixon · CB · rank 191
Taking Johnny Dixon in the 219th overall pick is close to grand larceny; a cornerback that good had no business lasting this long. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
R7.3 · Pick 223 · Trevin Wallace · LB · rank 234
They paid up for Trevin Wallace at No. 223 when waiting would have done the job. They doubled down on a strength rather than a need.
R7.10 · Pick 230 · Frank Gore Jr. · RB · rank 229
Frank Gore Jr. in the 230th pick is fair value, right on his grade. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
