Green Bay Packers

More right than wrong for the Packers, and a B- to prove it.

There was a run on nobody at that position, and the Packers started one anyway for Kendall Milton, 32 picks ahead of schedule. The bottom line is a respectable B-.

They will answer for taking safety early while edge rusher, quarterback and other spots went begging. Leaving edge rusher unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall. Melton falling to them is the kind of break a good board is built to catch.

On the needs board they went 5 of 8, with cornerback the one that mattered most.

Good work on the whole, with edge rusher the one box left unchecked.

Pick-by-Pick

R1.25 · Pick 25 · Graham Barton · OT · rank 25
In Round 1, Pick 25 they get protection for the quarterback. A real need, handled.
R2.9 · Pick 41 · Payton Wilson · LB · rank 57
They went early on Payton Wilson in slot 41, and the value did not follow. A minor need, but a need all the same.
R2.26 · Pick 58 · Zach Frazier · C · rank 62
A straight-up fair deal on Zach Frazier at the 58th overall pick, value and slot in agreement. A need, and now a little less of one.
R3.25 · Pick 88 · Max Melton · CB · rank 76
Nice patience on Max Melton, who had no business lasting to No. 88. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
R3.28 · Pick 91 · Cole Bishop · S · rank 104
They paid a round early for Cole Bishop in pick No. 91, more than the board wanted. A minor itch, scratched.
R4.26 · Pick 126 · James Williams · S · rank 125
A want over a need in the Round 4 slot: James Williams adds a safety while edge rusher, quarterback and other spots keeps waiting.
R5.33 · Pick 169 · Kendall Milton · RB · rank 201
A big swing on Kendall Milton at slot 169, well ahead of any board in the building. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
R6.27 · Pick 202 · Myles Murphy · DL · rank 225
They reached a country mile for Myles Murphy at the Round 6 slot, and the board is aghast. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
R6.44 · Pick 219 · Frank Gore Jr. · RB · rank 226
They paid sticker price for Frank Gore Jr. in pick No. 219, and that is fine. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
R7.25 · Pick 245 · Tyler Owens · S · rank 255
The board had cheaper options than Tyler Owens at No. 245, and it noticed. A luxury on a unit that was already in good shape.
R7.35 · Pick 255 · Joshua Cephus · WR · rank 266
They liked Joshua Cephus enough to skip the value, taking him in the 255th pick. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
