The move everyone will second-guess came early. The Patriots reached some 112 spots for Bilhal Kone, and value like that does not grow back. Call it a sensible B-, earned the boring way.
That edge rusher hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall. They went 5 of 8 on their needs, which is most of what a draft is for.
Building through the lines is a philosophy, and they stuck to it.
Good work on the whole, with edge rusher the one box left unchecked.
Pick-by-Pick
A straight-up fair deal on Kelvin Banks Jr. at the Round 1 slot, value and slot in agreement. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Tre Harris at pick 38 is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
They did well to land Quinshon Judkins in pick No. 69, just ahead of his grade. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Mason Taylor in the 77th pick is fair value, right on his grade. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
No drama and no debate, Jared Wilson went about where he belonged in No. 106. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
A market-rate specialist, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Andres Borregales. Nice player, but the depth chart did not need him here.
Jonas Sanker at Round 7, Pick 1 is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Cody Lindenberg. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Bilhal Kone in No. 238 is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. A minor need, but a need all the same.
