The best pick of the weekend was also the simplest. The Chiefs watched Chris Paul Jr. slide 81 picks past his grade and did not hesitate. Some smart calls, some head-scratchers, and a C- in the wash.
The Kandra reach is the anchor dragging on the value grade. Overpaying at the table undid a lot of the good work elsewhere.
The quarterback hole is the one line item this class does not answer.
In the end, a coin-flip class: fine today, with a wide range of outcomes ahead.
Pick-by-Pick
Armand Membou in Round 2, Pick 9 is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
The board had cheaper options than Tyleik Williams at the Round 2 slot, and it noticed. The roster fit checks out.
Jayden Higgins at pick No. 64 is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
This one needs a full-page explanation: Luke Kandra in the 66th overall pick, miles early. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
A wild overpay on Jack Nelson in pick 76, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
A tidy little value on Jack Bech in the 96th pick, a step better than break-even. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
A real head-scratcher, Ty Robinson in No. 132 is miles ahead of his ranking. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
They will replay Oronde Gadsden II at slot 148 for years; that is how good the value is. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Chris Paul Jr. at Round 6, Pick 18 is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
