There is a lot to like until you notice interior defensive lineman is still a hole. The Patriots never got to the one that mattered most. It does the job without flash, and the B reflects it.
The Sampson pick is the one they will point to when this weekend is judged. They will need Harris to outplay his draft slot in a hurry to justify it.
Job largely done: edge rusher settled and 3 of 8 of the wish list covered.
Add it up and it is a good, unfussy class.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 4th pick they get a disruptor off the edge at fair value. Exactly the need they had to hit.
A premium they did not need to pay, Tre Harris a notch or two before his time. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Nothing to complain about; Xavier Restrepo went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Nice patience on Dylan Sampson, who had no business lasting to pick No. 77. It fills a real need, too.
