The Packers did not reach, did not trade up, did not blink. They just waited, and Deontae Lawson fell into the Round 5 slot.
They are betting Prather proves the room right and everyone else wrong. A whole weekend of picks and edge rusher is somehow still a want.
Not a headline-grabber, but a perfectly good weekend's work.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 27th pick they get a centerfielder for the defense, outstanding value to boot. Need was not the driver here.
Taking Derrick Harmon in pick No. 58 is close to grand larceny; an interior defensive lineman that good had no business lasting this long. It fills a real need, too.
You do not let a running back like Dylan Sampson reach the 91st overall pick and blink. They did not. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
A cornerback of that caliber at pick 127 is the definition of value, full stop. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Steal is underselling it; Deontae Lawson at No. 162 is a heist with the alarm still ringing. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
They talked themselves into Kaden Prather at the Round 6 slot, and the board did not agree. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
