The rest of the league had time to spare on Phillip Webb; the Cowboys did not wait, grabbing him 116 spots ahead at pick 168.
The Kiser steal is the beam this whole class leans on. The dealing is the wound this class cannot quite close. If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through cornerback.
On the needs board they went 5 of 8, with wide receiver the one that mattered most.
Add it up and it is a weekend the front office will hope everyone forgets, cornerback very much included.
Pick-by-Pick
In the Round 1 slot they get a pocket-collapsing interior rusher at fair value. A real need, handled.
Tre Harris at Round 2, Pick 1 is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
They went early on Jake Majors in No. 76, and the value did not follow. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Malachi Moore at the 102nd overall pick is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Phillip Webb at slot 168 is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Cam Skattebo at pick No. 170 is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. The roster fit checks out.
By-the-book stuff, Addison West at the 173rd pick squarely in line with his ranking. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Thor Griffith at slot 186 is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Joey Slackman. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Circle this one: Jack Kiser at No. 247 is a fall that decides a draft. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
