The Texans bet big and early on Quinn Carroll, 80 picks ahead of the board. Bold does not always mean right. The bottom line is a respectable B-.
Whatever else happened, they won the night they took Hampton. They covered a lot of ground and still skipped wide receiver, which is a strange place to end up. The roster is better shaped than it was, with running back chief among the fixes.
The trenches got the money picks, top to bottom.
A workmanlike haul that should hold up just fine.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick No. 25 they get a load in the middle. The biggest hole, addressed.
Omarion Hampton at Round 2, Pick 26 is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
They barely believed it either: Denzel Burke still on the board at pick 89. A minor need, but a need all the same.
Value said wait; Howard Cross III in the Round 4 slot says they were not listening. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Quinn Carroll well ahead of where he belonged. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
They jumped the gun on Garrett Dellinger, taking him earlier than his grade liked. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
