Dallas Cowboys

Nothing loud, just a tidy B for the Cowboys.

The Cowboys did not so much draft Jimmy Horn Jr. as overpay for him, 120 picks clear of his grade. It sets an uneasy tone for the weekend. The bottom line is a respectable B.

Getting Stutsman where they did is the sort of value that quietly makes a class. Leaving quarterback unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall.

A small leak at the table, if not a fatal one.

Good work on the whole, with quarterback the one box left unchecked.

Pick-by-Pick

R1.26 · Pick 26 · Emeka Egbuka · WR · rank 24
In No. 26 they get a home-run threat at receiver. Exactly the need they had to hit.
R2.12 · Pick 44 · Omarion Hampton · RB · rank 30
Omarion Hampton at pick No. 44 is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
R3.12 · Pick 76 · Jihaad Campbell · LB · rank 40
Steal is underselling it; Jihaad Campbell at the 76th pick is a heist with the alarm still ringing. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
R3.16 · Pick 80 · TreVeyon Henderson · RB · rank 55
TreVeyon Henderson in the 80th overall pick is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. The roster fit checks out.
R5.11 · Pick 148 · Barrett Carter · LB · rank 83
They will replay Barrett Carter at slot 148 for years; that is how good the value is. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
R5.13 · Pick 150 · Malachi Moore · S · rank 95
Malachi Moore at pick 150 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
R5.31 · Pick 168 · Cobee Bryant · CB · rank 186
They reached a country mile for Cobee Bryant at No. 168, and the board is aghast. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
R5.33 · Pick 170 · Jake Majors · C · rank 107
Jake Majors in pick No. 170 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
R5.36 · Pick 173 · Danny Stutsman · LB · rank 90
A linebacker of that caliber at the Round 5 slot is the definition of value, full stop. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
R6.11 · Pick 186 · Ty Hamilton · DT · rank 226
Ty Hamilton in Round 6, Pick 11 is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
R6.13 · Pick 188 · Jimmy Horn Jr. · WR · rank 308
Jimmy Horn Jr. at the 188th overall pick is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
R6.34 · Pick 209 · Luke Lachey · TE · rank 195
Value with a capital V on Luke Lachey in slot 209, a genuine coup. It fills a real need, too.
R7.32 · Pick 248 · Ollie Gordon II · RB · rank 174
A top-tier running back at a bargain, Ollie Gordon II in pick 248, plain and simple. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
