The Patriots treated their own grade as gospel and everyone else's as noise, spending No. 222 on Gino Garcia a full 65 spots early.
Ferguson falling to them is the kind of break a good board is built to catch. For all the activity, quarterback went untouched, which is hard to explain. Building through the lines is a philosophy, and they stuck to it.
In sum, a sensible class that nudges the roster the right way.
Pick-by-Pick
In the Round 1 slot they get a double-digit-sack hope. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Aireontae Ersery at Round 2, Pick 6 jumps the queue by a touch more than is comfortable. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Isaiah Bond in the 69th overall pick. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
A market-rate cornerback, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Denzel Burke. A minor itch, scratched.
Kevin Winston Jr. in slot 105 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Cam Skattebo at pick No. 120 is the proof. It fills a real need, too.
Taking Terrance Ferguson in pick 145 is close to grand larceny; a tight end that good had no business lasting this long. The roster fit checks out.
They paid sticker price for Cam Horsley in No. 219, and that is fine. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Gino Garcia at slot 222 is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. Insurance at a position that did not really ask for it.
Jamon Dumas-Johnson in the 240th pick is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
