For all the names on the card, the loudest question went unanswered. The Cowboys walked out of the weekend still thin at wide receiver, a hole that has a way of deciding seasons.
They are betting Watson proves the room right and everyone else wrong. On the needs board they went 4 of 8, with offensive lineman the one that mattered most.
The trenches got the money picks, top to bottom.
In sum, a sensible class that nudges the roster the right way.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick 24 they get a building block for the line. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Jackson Powers-Johnson in the 56th pick lands just on the right side of the ledger. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
McKinnley Jackson in No. 87 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
A reach for Cedric Gray in Round 4, Pick 25; a little patience would have been rewarded. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
They went early on Jaylan Ford in slot 173, and the value did not follow. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
They reached into another round for Blake Watson, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. The roster fit checks out.
No edge and no loss on Jeremy Flax in pick No. 242; it is a wash and a sensible one. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
