The Packers looked at the value chart, folded it up, and took Trevin Wallace at pick No. 91 regardless, 60 picks early. A dependable weekend that grades out a B-.
The edge rusher spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at. The Oladapo pick reads as want over need, and the roster will feel it at edge rusher, quarterback and other spots.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the edge rusher spot they never got to.
Pick-by-Pick
In slot 25 they get an island corner. The biggest hole, addressed.
Jordan Morgan in the Round 2 slot lands just on the right side of the ledger. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Good price on Javon Bullard in Round 2, Pick 26, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Roger Rosengarten in the 88th pick is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Trevin Wallace at No. 91 is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
A surprising call. With edge rusher, quarterback and other spots still to address, they spent pick No. 126 on Kitan Oladapo, a safety they were not short of.
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Kimani Vidal. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
They reached a country mile for Trey Taylor at the 202nd overall pick, and the board is aghast. A want more than a need, though you can never have too many.
They paid sticker price for Tylan Grable in the Round 6 slot, and that is fine. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Michael Barrett in Round 7, Pick 25 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. A want dressed up as a pick, at a spot they had covered.
LaDarius Henderson in No. 255 is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. It fills a real need, too.
